About FAU Figure Skating
Have experience in figure skating and hope to integrate it into your time at FAU? Never skated before but captivated by the beauty of figure skating and eager to step on the ice? Interested in the sport? In 2021, FAU Figure Skating was established by a figure skater herself looking to bring her love of the ice to others and continue her passion while at FAU. We welcome ALL LEVELS and are always excited to meet others interested in figure skating!
Our 2 Branches
FAU Figure Skating Competititve Team
FAU Figure Skating Recreational Team
Our competitive team is a USFSA sanctioned intercollegiate team comprised of motivated, hard-working, full-time FAU students.
The competitive team is meant for skaters of all levels who are interested in competing. Our team coaches help skaters improve and be ready to compete. Intercollegiate competitions are exciting and fun!
We travel once in fall and twice in spring as a team to attend competitions and skaters of all levels join.

FAQ
Do I need to know how to skate to join?
No prior experience is necessary to join! Our rec team is always open and is a great option for those interested in the sport but not competing. Our competitive team has skaters of all levels, including beginners. We require that you are committed to attending team practices and willing to practice on your own and take lessons with a coach, which the team can help arrange. Those interested in the competitive team must also have their own skates and pay club dues each semester, which help go towards competitions, team jackets, coaching, ice time, events, etc.
How do intercollegiate competitions work?
Skaters can compete in freestyle, solo ice dance, solo pattern dance, and team maneuvers, an event unique to intercollegiate competitions. Each skater earns individual placements and awards for each event they compete in, in addition to points for the team. Teams cheer each other on and work to obtain as many points as possible. Regardless of the level a skater competes in, they earn points for their team, so we encourage all of our members to try competing and help represent FAU! For more information about intercollegiate figure skating and to see levels offered at competitions, refer to the intercollegiate handbook.

Do you provide lessons? How can I learn how to skate?
While our competitive team does have 2 coaches that work with the team to prepare them for competitions during weekly team practices, skaters are expected to practice outside of this as well, in which lessons are not included. However, our coaches are always excited to work with our skaters and additional lessons can be scheduled, which we can help arange. Unfortunately, our recreational team does not have set practices, but lessons with our team coaches can still be scheduled. We recommend Learn to Skate classes to help skaters improve their skills and be comfortable on the ice. Our home rink's classes can be found here.
Where does the team skate at and when are competitive team practices?
The team's home rink is currently Palm Beach Skate Zone, which is located about 30 minutes from the FAU Boca Raton campus. Competititve team practices are once a week, typically early Saturday mornings to accomodate work and school schedules as best as possible, on private team ice just for the team. Many of our skaters carpool to the rink to attend practices.
